Holy Cats! A Very Hungry Caterpillar

Remember this guy? Move over, Goodnight, Moon; this was one of my favorites.
So.. we had a substantial thunderstorm this morning and, sadly, one of the Roma tomato buckets broke in the 60 mph winds. It’s now propped up between two patio chairs (you can see it in the background). The post looks a little lonely now, but it’ll do. Note the crazy cucumber plants bearing fruit up to 7′ high.
Lately we’d noticed the tomato plant on the right had holy tomatoes. We thought it might be birds since we saw chunks of possible bird poop on the cucumber plants below.
So I was picking through the tomatoes and getting rid of the bad ones when this was discovered:
It is a tobacco hornworm, not to be confused with the tomato hornworm. Check it out on wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manduca_sexta
His name is Herbert. I think he’s very very hungry.
