Harvest Moon Drive-In

In their prime drive-in theaters peaked at over 4,000 in the US. In 1954 the Harvest Moon Drive-In (Gibson City, IL) opened and now remains as one of the less than 500 drive-in theaters still in operation.

We made our first trek of the season to the drive-in last Friday to see “How to Train Your Dragon”. Tonight we’re heading over for “Date Night”.

Harvest Moon has fully stocked and reasonably priced concessions with your typical fair fare: burgers, dogs, pizzas from the Pizza Hut across the street, funnel cakes, pickles (!), floats, candy, and the necessary popcorn. You are also welcome to bring your own food and even grill before showtime.

Did I mention it also runs entirely on wind power?

One of my favorite parts of the drive-in experience are the period commercials during intermission.

This Personality Pickle didn't last long!
